So I got a Second Life account. I know, I worried that it was lame, too. I tried it a few years ago (after watching that CSI: New York episode; anyone remember it?), but it didn't work for me. I got a few outfits and some different hair, but I didn't know anyone or what I could or couldn't do, so I just gave up. Incidentally, my laptop crashed and burned for the first time about that time, too, so that was some of it.
A friend had been working on me, telling me how awesome it was, telling me how much fun she was having, and telling me to get my butt on there. I finally decided to try it again to attend her Christmas party, but I planned on deleting the whole program the next day. Did that work out for me? Not so much. It's been almost two months and I'm still going with it, and actually even getting worse. Not only is my real life husband playing with me as well, but we've recently bought our own land and gotten several bunnies to have and breed. He'd like more animals, but personally, these bunnies are the ones for me.
Also, while I stick to myself in real life, I'm a lot more free and open on Second Life. I host at clubs, dance (without clothes even, oh my!), and in general have a good time, all the while enjoying the anonymity of an avatar. She can shop, buy better clothes and shoes (with better fashion sense - weird is right!), hell, she can FLY! Yes, she's not real. Yes, she's not me. But yes, she's a lot of fun, and so is the community in which she lives.
So, is Second Life lame? Nope, it's entertaining. You just have to keep the right frame of mind.
As for this blog, I'm just blogging for me. I'd like to have people who read it and benefit from it, sure, but at the end of the day, you can only do what you do for yourself, right? So stay tuned for me being a dork, me finding good deals and awesome hunts, and me just being me (which goes back to being a dork, I guess).
